Welcome to our website!

J–tax–S was founded by Jeri Beth Dettinger in 2005.  Jeri is an Enrolled Agent. The status of an Enrolled Agent is the highest credential the IRS awards. Individuals who obtain this elite status must adhere to ethical standards and are the only tax practitioners who specialize in taxation and also have unlimited rights to represent taxpayers before the Internal Revenue Service. Our clients rest easy knowing their returns are in qualified hands. Our biggest business comes from our individual tax preparation services. Our prices start at $150 for individual, that includes federal, state, and local with free E-Filing!

We thrive on taking the stress out of taxes by providing a “homey” relaxed environment. You will usually find us in jeans and a t-shirts without shoes wearing our “fun animal” slippers and having lots of laughs. We are kid friendly and offer coloring pages to help entertain the children while we serve their parent’s tax needs. There is also a TV with Netflix to entertain the kids of all ages.

Even with our firm’s lack of advertising, we grew large enough to require a larger location. We started out in the Village Square Shopping Center in Jacobus, from there moved our location to Dallastown in 2014.  Once again we out grew that location and expanded our notary side of the business and purchased a new building in Red Lion in October 2020. We credit this growth to our loyal client base and their continuous referrals. We have worked hard to get where we are today. We are truly blessed, we thank all of our valuable clients for getting us here.

There are several ways we serve our clients

  1.   In person appointments (We usually are booked a year in advanced for this option, but if you call in Dec or Jan you may get lucky to snag one of our few remaining appointments for tax season.)
  2.   Drop off service – you can drop off all your documents and we will prepare the returns and call when they are ready for you to stop in to review them, pay for the tax prep and sign the forms.   Drop off service is any where from 2-6 week process depending on number of returns we receive.   We do not begin returns until we       have all the documentation we believe we need, we then do returns in the order we receive them.  If we find out we need more information during our data entry stage you will be put on hold status until all information is received at which time you go back to the end of the line, so we advice making sure we have all  information  with initial drop off. 
  3.   We have a secure client portal where you can upload your documents for us to prepare your return.   We will then send the return to you for you to review and docu-sign.    (This process can take 4+ weeks once we have all your information)
  4.   We also accept returns mailed priority mail and will return your documents, copy of tax return, and signature pages the same way.   There is an postage fee of $10+ (based on actual postal costs) added for this service.
